1967 Detroit Riots Youtube Playlist
Note: The first of the two videos in this playlist entitled “Detroit Race Riots 1967” has one pretty horrendous error. Slide #4 erroneously shows a photo of a some recent African conflict (a youtube commenter guessed Liberia). The creator does admit the error in the video description and she’s a liberal ( I spent some time snooping on her Youtube channel) so I'm tempted to cut her some slack..
While I think it was a horrible decision on her part to use that completely unrelated photo I've included the video anyway because it does a good job of chronicling the timeline of events and depicts just how grossly militarized the local, state and federal response was.
The second video is an excerpt of a ABC nightly news story in which Charles Gibson and ABC do their usually shitty job - in this case giving zero background on the conditions or situation that caused the riots and instead focusing 100 percent of the attention on the damage caused. I’ve included it because the video footage and the insights of the photographer they interview has something to offer.
