It was a Dutch slave ship that brought the first batch of slaves to the American colonies ( 25 slaves delivered to Jamestown in 1633).

It was the Dutch who in 1663 began the practice of paying a bounty for the scalps of Indians — a policy which would later be copied by many of the British colonies.
